The Stardust opened in 1958 and became known for its enormous space-age signage, the Lido de Paris production and a long list of celebrity performers. Its history also intersected with the organized-crime era that later inspired parts of the film Casino. The property closed in 2006 and was imploded in March 2007. Plans for the land changed hands before Genting ultimately developed Resorts World Las Vegas, which opened in 2021. Unlike many replacement resorts, Resorts World deliberately acknowledges the old property: a recreated Stardust sign and other commemorative elements are displayed on site. Visitors are literally walking through one of the Strip's most storied casino locations.
